WOYWW ~ Not A Lot Of Making Going On

This week’s What’s On Your Workdesk Wednesday finds me with a number of items in progress and not much done.

Thanks to everyone who left comments on my blog last week. I really do appreciate them.

Orange DeskThe large canvas is an old painting which has been lying dormant for months. I was inspired to take it up again when I heard that Mandarin Orange Monday is celebrating their 100th birthday and having a giveaway. However, I’ve missed the deadline for that so it will probably end up back in the “waiting for inspiration” pile.

The book poetry is moving again thanks to Bookworm Laura’s and Robyn’s suggestions to add some gesso and paint. Why on earth didn’t I think of that?

The tea bag is still there as a reminder. I’ve yet to do anything with them. I have started some research though and created a Tea Bag Art board on Pinterest. I know, I know . . . creating a Pinterest board doesn’t count as making art!

The cards in the background are from a board game I bought to upcycle. I got them out because someone (sorry, I’ve forgotten who) mentioned an altered card swap and I’ve been thinking about doing that.

So . . . sadly, it’s been a bit of a faffing around week with not a lot of making going on. I wish I could clone myself and have a ‘Get It Done Fun Day‘ with me. It’s so much easier to motivate others and bathe in the glory of their successes rather than get on with my own stuff. :-)

Ah well. Today’s a new day and all that!

  1. Oh, don’t be discouraged because you aren’t seeing any visible results from your work. Often I’ve found that “faffing about” is really necessary thinking and processing time. At some point it will all come together and you’ll suddenly have a bunch of stuff done. :-)

Thanks for stopping by my blog and for the nice comments.

  2. Tea bag art sounds interesting! – I’ve used tea bags to dye fabric to ‘age’ it, but never tried them in art! Thanks for calling by earlier – yes I’m enjoying using the new pens, I think they will work with my rather large Promarker collection OK.

  3. That’s a great canvas – I love that colour combination – it works really well. I also have a pile of teabag papers that are waiting for some creative inspiration! Thanks so much for visiting my blog earlier, I hope you have a great week,

  4. You’ve gotten some good tips in the previous comments! I do blog surf for inspiration and it usually helps. Love the colors in the canvas and looks like you have things ready to go when you do get inspired. Thanks for popping by and Happy WOYWW!

  5. Oh I’ll have to remember that “faffing around”! Love it. About all I’ve done today too. Thanks for the earlier visit! Hugs and Happy WOYWW! Nan G #76

  6. Well, I slightly disagree with you that you should put that canvas away….who cares about deadlines? Just do it for your own enjoyment and satisfaction! I really like it :-)
Tout Quarry was quite low key but we all enjoyed scrambling around. It was free too!

  7. I don’t know if I’d want a clone. With my luck the clone would get to do all the fun stuff and I’d get left with chores and housework. Sometimes being creative means just moving the stuff here and there and about. I’m sure you’ll get back into actually making stuff soon! The funk never lasts long. Thanks for the visit earlier. I have to pick up after myself otherwise the cats will throw it all on the floor and tussle in it. Judy #77

  8. I think sometimes it’s good to have several things on the go as you can leave one and work on another, suddenly inspiration arrives, often when you least expect it and you can quickly pop back and add to the other projects.
I spy some tubs that I recognise towards the back which i bet hold lovely texture pastes.
Thanks so much for visiting me earlier. Have a great week and happy crafting, Angela x #41

  9. Hello I like the colours on the canvas and hope you get inspired to continue soon. I’ve far too many projects on the go!! Anne x #35

  10. Yep – I’ve been having quite a few faffing around weeks. Time to just do stuff and see what happens. I’ll be interested to see what you do with your altered deck of cards – I’m in a similar swap with a friend – we are altering a deck of cards each to give to each other but they have to be inspirational. Either prompts of quotes. Luckily we have given each other till Christmas 😉

Thanks for stopping by to see me already,

  11. Okay, what is faffing? I don’t know what it means, but I like that word. :) Love your large piece of artwork just the way it is. The colors and shapes are what I like. Anyway, thank you for already stopping by! Happy WOYWW! #78

  12. I had to laugh out loud about starting another pinterest board, I think we all fall victim to that addiction sooner or later. I just need it to cool off a little at my house its too hot to weed so, one of these weeks I may shoot the yard as an excuse of why nothing new is going on haha. Thanks for the visit!

  13. Lol Gillian – on first reading, I thought you’d written “Mondrian Orange” rather than “mandarin orange” – the canvas does look rather reminiscent of Mondrian! All those gorgeous rectangles. Lovely to find someone else who’s into teabag art and I’ve just signed up to follow your latest Pinterest board. I have one on teabag art too and was interested to discover quite a few of the same pictures. My teabag art is on the back burner at the moment while I focus on my album. Thanks for your visit. Actually I really enjoy the process of video editing, but it does take such a long time! Perhaps I’m too much of a perfectionist but I’m always tinkering till I’m happy with the result. There was a lot of work involved in creating the new opening and closing clips after I got my new HD camera, and set up my new ARTHaven. I have also invested in Final Cut Pro, which is by far the best video editing software I’ve ever used – it simply does exactly what you want it to do, and is so powerful – an application used by the professionals! Only on Mac unfortunately – no Windows version. I’m totally fed up with Pinnacle which was always crashing and misbehaving!

  14. Hi Gillian thanks for visiting my desk..how often do I make a project and miss the deadline LOL. and you had me chuckling away with the teabags bit…wondering what you would be doing I check Pinterest, then remembered I’ve saved bags myself cut flowers out of them…NO I’m not saving any I already pull the tabs off to give to my mum who passes them onto someone who has some sort of thing going on where if you can collect the weight of a wheelchair in tags , the chair will be for a needy person. Happy WOYWW and hope you get some more crafting time. RobynO#28

  15. I love the colours on that canvas, you should leave it out and I bet it will sing to you and off you’ll go and finish it. I know how you feel with faffing around, it’s school holidays here and getting a moment to play, plus getting the inspiration is almost impossible. Keep smiling and have a great week.

  16. I’m sure if you just play with your canvas a little here and there that eventually you’ll have it where you want or it could be mood art – changes with your moods 😉 thanks for the visit hugs Nikki 2

  17. Hi Gillian, loving the colours on your canvas it reminds me of sun, sea and sand, a very Mediterranean feel to it. Had to smile at you having a “faffing around week”. I am the worlds biggest faffer lol. Maybe there’s a self help group somewhere out there where we could get help ? Like Faffers Anonymous maybe.
Hope the rest of your week is productive for you.

  18. I always have a few things on the go at the same time. Really, I couldn’t work any other way :) And sometimes you just need to faff around for a while before inspiration hits :)
Thanks for stopping by earlier, much appreciated,

  19. Hope you get the inspiration to finish your canvas soon, super colours and patterns on it already. Thanks for visiting me BJ#9

  20. Sometimes I just start stamping on scrap paper and it’ll trigger an idea. Just think what you would say to someone else (a mirror?)write yourself an email? lol Thanks for visiting my blog earlier. Happy belated WOYWW! #63

  21. Well, hello Gillian. Sorry I’m late getting around this week – life does have the habit of getting in the way sometimes…. What amazing colours on that canvas – hope it doesn’t get put too far down the to-do list. Thanks for visiting – yes, I’ve managed more craft this past week – mainly ‘cos John hasn’t needed quite such a lot of care – but also because the BIG stress has gone…. YES!!!!! I have finished the first of the two wedding dresses – the hard one without a pattern. SUCH a relief to be given a huge hug from the bride telling me she thought it was beautiful! It has broken every sewing rule in the book – and I have discovered that, unlike Chenello on the Great British Sewing Bee, I am NOT an instinctive sewer! I like patterns – they are soothing. So much so, that I shall be starting on the second dress on Tuesday.
Take care – and you can always reverse the process and ask me to help you if you like….
    God bless.
