Get In The Flow Participant Instructions

Congratulations on signing up to be a participant in ‘Get In The Flow’ live coaching!

Here’s some more information about what to expect and how to get ready for the Hangout . . .

How To Prepare

There are a few things you need to do on the technical side in order to ensure your coaching session runs smoothly. Once that’s sorted nothing else is needed, apart from an open mind maybe!

Work your way through these instructions and then turn up for the show 15 minutes before your appointment time so we can check everything is set up correctly. You may also like to play around with your computer position and lighting if you’ve not been in a video before.

~ As Soon As Possible:

1. Create a Google+ account

‘The Get In The Flow Show’ is broadcast live on Google’s Hangout On Air (HOA) facility.  In order to participate you need to have a Google+ account which you can set up for free here: https://accounts.google.com

If you have a gmail account, sign in using your gmail username and password.

If you don’t have a gmail account, click the “Create an Account” link under the sign-in box. Use your real name so it’s easy for people to find you. You’ll create a new Gmail address during the process.

2. Add me to your circles

This will make it easier for me to invite you to the hangout. Go to google.com/+GillianPearce to do so.

3. Install the Google video plugin.

Do that by visiting this link: https://www.google.com/chat/video

~ On The Day Of Your Appointment*:

4. Connect to the internet directly

If possible use a LAN connection with an Ethernet cable to cut down the risk of audio and video dropping out during the Hangout. If you’re unable to connect your computer to your router directly, move your computer as close as possible to your wireless router.

5. Set up your audio

It’s important to wear headphones during the HOA to avoid feedback from your speakers. They don’t have to be expensive. The ear buds you use for your phone will probably be good enough, for example.

Remove/turn off anything that might produce background noise – TV, music player, pets etc.

Turn off anything that might automatically turn on during the Hangout – mobile/home/office phones, air-conditioner,  alarms etc.

6. Set up your lighting

Most video experts suggest you arrange your computer/laptop so that you have lighting in front rather than behind you. Don’t sit with your back to a window, for example. However, the set up I like best is 2 daylight lamps at the side of me that I shine forward. It’s worth taking some time to arrange your lighting so you’re comfortable with how you appear on the screen.

* If this is the first time you have set up your computer for live video please check these items well in advance of your appointment time, preferably on an earlier day so if there are any problems I can help you sort them out.

~ 15-20 minutes before your coaching session starts:

  1. Go to plus.google.com (preferably using a Chrome browser)
  2. Sign in using your Gmail username and password.
  3. In the top right corner of the Google+ home screen you will see the account name. Next to the account name, a red box will appear. Click on the red box.
  4. You will see a message that says “Gillian Pearce has invited you to a Hangout.” (If you don’t you may have gotten online before me. Give me a few minutes and if I don’t show up send an email to: gjpcoach at gmail dot com and we’ll work out what’s gone wrong.)
  5. Click “Join Hangout.”
  6. The Hangout will automatically open. You will see your own and my image.

At this point the Hangout will not be live so we can play around with settings if necessary and I can answer any questions you have. I will tell you when we’re going live and off we’ll go!

~ What To Expect During the Coaching Session

The whole point of the ‘Get in the Flow Show’ is to give you the experience of simply turning up and going with what appears. We will start with whatever’s on your mind on the day and take it from there. In the space that gets created you’ll be surprised at the answers you already have but you hadn’t noticed. If past shows are anything to go by you will find it relaxing, fun, useful and enlightening!

If you’d like to watch some past shows you can do so on my YouTube Playlist: Get In The Flow Show – Live Coaching with Gillian Pearce

~ What To Expect When the Hangout has finished

Depending on timings, when the Hangout is finished you and I will stay online and have a private chat to round off the session.
