My first public commission! Sounds a bit grand doesn’t it? But there it is.
Yesterday I was beside myself with excitement. Today I’m “yeah, whatever”! But secretly excited, nervous, astounded . . . a bit in shock I think.
Here’s how it happened . . .
I created a Facebook page after years of putting it off: Gillian Pearce Art
Unknown person but soon to be first public client takes Yoga class and hears a quote she likes.
Arrives home and decides to look it up on the internet. Finds this site, likes my paintings then finds Facebook page (no idea how that works). Leaves a message on FB asking if I could paint a picture using the quote she likes in the style of a couple of other paintings on the site that have different quotes.
Wow! What? Wow!
Painting begins . . .
. . . and that’s What’s On My Workdesk (this) Wednesday.
Pretty cool, eh?

You’re a miracle. That’s what you are. Not only did you find me when I haven’t sorted out my “web presence” yet, let alone my “social media” one. But you ordered a picture before I’d sorted out a form to make it easy for visitors to do just that. Marvelous! That’s why one of my favourite painting quotes is “Put it out and let the world decide”.

Big fat well done! And to the client who tracked you down, how nice. Am not sure about twitter, but feel that good management of FB and blogging can make the time it takes an investment rather than a distraction in terms of business.
Thanks for the comment Julia. I’m not sure about Twitter either but it’s sooooo much easier for me than FB. At the moment it’s taking a massive amount of time because it just doesn’t work the way I expect it to. Management of FB is challenge enough. Let along “good” management. I’ll stick with it though. it can only get easier. 🙂

you will be receiving a ‘friend request’ very shortly on Facebook. I think it’s a wonderful tool and I plan on opeing a page just for my art. my page is currently very ‘messy’ with ‘stuff’ everywhere so want to organise it a bit better.
