It’s time for What’s On Your Workdesk Wednesday again and here’s a quick peek at mine.
I’m not sure what I’ll do with the doily paper dress yet or with the tea bags but I’m looking forward to finding out!
The computer’s there because I’m still working on creating a pin for each of my Pinterest boards so am using it for reference.
I’m finding it really helpful to have some limits on what I might create. Standing in the attic with all my goodies around me and infinite possibilities is often a bit overwhelming. Confining myself to something for Pinterest helps narrow down my choices. It will be interesting to see how that works out when things swing the other way and I start to run out of boards!
The original idea was to link the images to the ‘Get It Done Fun Days’ but I’m not sure how I’d do that without making the art a bit contrived. Maybe I could add something in the description . . . hmmmmm . . .
The first piece I did was some Found Poetry. (Click the link if you want to read the full story and see the end result.) Suffice it to say I was delighted with the poem itself because it fitted the ‘Get It Done Fun Days’ theme unbelievably well. The illustration was less than I’d hoped though and then I spoiled it.
However, it all worked out in the end as, in a flash of inspiration, I pinned it on my Pinterest Fails board.
The second piece is for my Mail art board and is based on another pin which I found on Flickr – https://www.flickr.com/photos/monda-loves/5527214458/in/photostream.
This was really fun to make as I love using recycled stuff. The envelope is from the 60’s with a pre-decimalisation stamp (it’s got a one shilling price), some handwritten notes on DH Lawrence from an old school file, upcycled buttons and a recycled piece of paper from an old sketchbook.
Now, the million dollar question . . . what am I going to do with it?
Linking to Art Journal Journey where this month’s theme is Flower Power.
You are certainly having fun there, Gillian. I don’t think I understand anything about pinterest or pins or…. well, any social media, really. Don’t know how to go about accessing them, using them, or anything… Oh well. I think I actually have plenty on my plate at the mo.
Thanks for visiting already. I’ve got lots of ideas, but not much achieving at the moment. Try again next week, shall I??

Hi Gillian, great postal art work, love the recycled envelope idea. Happy WOYWW and have a super week RobynO#8
I love your art work – the flowers are fab on the envelope background and I love the vintage feel . I haven’t got into pinterest yet, it’s yet another thing on my list to explore, learn and use – so much new stuff out there it’s overwhelming! Thanks for visiting my blog and I hope you have a great week.

That’s a great envelope to be able to use! I don’t think I’ll ever run out of Pins to inspire me – I have so many ideas stored there! #26
Love it! I am also a fan of recycling stuff and I have to say what you did with “junk” is wonderful. I also love “found poetry” so that is cool too! Buy some lenses. They are such fun to play with! 🙂
Happy WOYWW!

I love, love, love your collage and all the interesting ephemera you used to make it. Art Journal Journey’s theme this month is “Flower Power,” so you may consider entering it there. Blessings!

Love what you are doing with the envelopes, Gillian. This is so imaginative and creative! Like you, I love using recycled stuff – nothing like creating something beautiful out of free stuff and rubbish!
Thanks for your visit and your most encouraging comment. It’s good to hear from someone who’s been on the 5:2 diet for some time and finding that it works. Glad you like my album too – I haven’t done many posts about the pages yet (although one of the earlier ones is in the pipeline once I’ve done the video) but the whole of the construction of the book itself is there, and it’s all from recycled materials.
Happy WOYWW,

Happy WOYWW thanks for sharing and the lovely comment.
My friend asked me to make that pram and I enjoy making it lol xx Jan
I have to tell you I am grinning from ear to ear that you have a board named “pinterest fails” lol. Okay so my sense of humor is strange. that dress is kinda cool makes me think maybe I will try something like that one of these days since I have piles of doilies. Thanks for the visit! ~Stacy #63
What an interesting challenge you have set yourself. I love the mail art. Thanks for sharing. Happy WOYWW. Caro x (#38)
Hi Gillian, thanks for the visit earlier..I am busy of my own making!! Love the doily dress..its gorgeous and the envelope collage is very clever. I am so curious about the tea bags..how on earth will you use those..or are they just for tea making 🙂 Cx #57
Loving your projects.
Thanks for stopping by my blog earlier.
Happy WOYWW Sue 24
I agree that standing around looking and thinking about it all is much too overwhelming. It does help a lot to narrow your scope down. You’ve made some fun things here. The doily dress is neat looking, can’t wait to see the final end point with it. Judy #72
Pinterest helps me a lot. I get a lot of inspiration there and can usually figure out what I’m doing next! Thanks for visiting. Happy WOYWW! Sandy Leigh #43
Thanks for popping by my blog earlier … my Gelli plate will either never come out of its packaging or I will be totally addicted to it! I love the way you have used that old envelope … really inspiring! Love Debbie xXx
what neat things you have going on. I have not done anything with stiches but I would like to. gives some nice umph to work. Thanks so much for letting me peek and thanks for stopping by to see us. Roberta
I love your idea for the pins and the thought of limiting your resourses is a good idea …. sometimes I have so much stash out I cant see the wood for the trees…. a bit like limiting colours to mono …. less is more and all that. Love the envelope too I really should use more embroidery on my work

Great up-cycling ! What good fun ! Thanks for visiting – glad you liked the flowers 7 red riding hood hugging the wolf – the statue really caught my eye too ! Ali#5
Hello and thanks for your visit. Lovely to see you. Love your ideas. Anne x #32
I love Pinterest and get so much inspiration there. I need to add some boards with better descriptions to find things easier. The doily dress looks pretty cool as does the mail art board. Thanks for popping by and Happy WOYWW!

Great envelope art! You are very creative! You have lots of inspiration to keep you busy.
thanks for your earlier visit, Gillian and for the peek at what you are doing. #15
It’s an eternal problem, what to do with it all. I used to like the work I did for a couple of stamp wholesalers that we’re very specific about which products I could and couldn’t use..it always made me think harder and stopped all the faffing over choice!
I must admit I too am hooked on Pinterest. Have been pinning boards with jewelry ideas that I think my hands will let me attempt. We’ll see. Love the mail art. Thanks for the earlier visit! Hugs and Happy WOYWW! Nan G #53
p.s. What name are you on Pinterest?
Love your mail piece. You could start a portfolio for storing/toting things you aren’t quite sure what to do with. I think it would look lovely framed and hanging on a wall. Thanks for visiting my blog earlier. To answer your question about RAKs, random acts of kindness in this case a small giveaway of some Tim Holtz goodies I picked up on clearance. Leave word if you’d like to throw your name in the hat : ). The stamp I’m carving is for a godzilla homage piece for one of my friends (who doesn’t read my blog). #39
Love that envelope! I’m still not sure how to do “stuff” on Pinterest! I just click and cross my fingers! I will show what I do with my flowers next week! Thanks for visiting, Chris 75
I love Pinterest, just what you need sometimes when the Mojo goes on holiday.
Happy crafting and have a great week, Angela x # 48
I like your envelope art! I mainly use Pinterest to pin *other* people’s work (or things to ponder buying) — I’m not certain whether I’ve ever posted anything of my own. It sounds like it’s working well for you as motivation and focus. Thanks for visiting me already and happy WOYWW! ~ Laura
I find I can get overwhelmed looking at everything, too. Pinterest actually helps me get a focus. I will have to stop by your boards. Thank you for stopping my my blog earlier. Diane #71
Love the mail art. As for Pinterest, I spend too much time when I go on it that I limit myself to Sunday mornings (but they turn into half days) LOL
Hugs and Thanks for visiting me – Neet 10 xx
I love this page Gillian! xxx
Hi Gillian,
I really like your flowers on the black paper. That definitely has given me some cool ideas. Also, I like the mailing envelope piece. I tear off stamps of letters I get and have a nice collection going. Don’t know what I’m going to use them on yet but they are there waiting for me!
Thank you for visiting me already!!
Happy belated WOYWW
Peace, Kay (60)
i so agree that limiting oneself is helpful. being a mixed media artist, there is no end to supplies and possibilities. Love your mail art.
It looks like you have been very busy. Thank you for stopping by my blog earlier.

Love re-use and recycle and old mail bits. Cute flowers. xox
Wow.. thats a kinda of Art. Great collage…beautiful imagination Gillian
Hi Gillian, I really like your envelope art, it’s so unique, and the sweet doily dress. I think I would probably make a cup of tea with the T bags then ponder over the question “what to do with it” whilst sipping the tea. Sorry! I know that’s not very helpful, I hope great things spring to mind soon. Thank you for paying me a visit (still working on the pop up box card, what can I say I’m a ditherer). Hugs Lottie #64
Hi Gillian, That doily paper dress is beautiful, so lovely that I am going to copy it, kind of, for two nieces’ birthday cards later this month. So beautiful, I don’t expect mine to be as perfect as yopurs, but useable.
Thanks for visiting me on Wednesday and no I don’t find opening boxes fun, but we did manage some other fun stuff.
Chris #42
Thanks for popping by. Like the collage work
Envelope art — something new to try! How fun! I’ve used envelopes in collage, but I haven’t done “pure” envelope art. Yours is really charming and fun. I love it!!
Oh, this wonderful! I like this straight-line and clear compostion! Very nicely done!
That is kind of the same like I feel, I need some words for a challenge I guess?.. Anyway it is so superb what you have done. Thank you so much for sharing
Kind regards
Mariane
