I will not die an unlived life,
I will not live in fear
Of falling or catching fire.
I choose to inhabit my days
To allow my living to open me,
To make me less afraid,
more accessible,
To loosen my heart
Until it becomes a wing,
A torch, a promise.
I choose to risk my significance; to live
So that which came to me as seed
Goes to the next as blossom
And that which came to me as blossom
Goes on as fruit.

Gillian, when my marriage came to an end, this poem was my mantra for the opportunities that I knew lay ahead of me if I could but open myself up to them. I could never read it aloud without crying…then! Thank you for reminding me about it. I must have come a long way since, because I can’t seem to get in touch with the emotions that I clearly felt at the time. I had felt so powerless, but no longer I’m pleased to say. xx
That’s wonderful to hear! xx
