Whose Life Would You Buy?

put me out orangeThe first version of this post appeared on my original blog, Life Moves, about 9 months ago. Feeling a little uninspired this morning but keen to keep playing the game of 30 blogs in 30 days, I asked myself – “what’s the simplest way to do this today?”  And this updated version is what I came to me . . .

The original post told the story of an auction on Ebay where a man sold his “life” for £192,000. (About US $300,000) Ian Usher auctioned his “life” when his wife left him six years after they emigrated from Britain to Australia. The sale included  his home and everything inside it, car, motorcycle,  jet ski, parachuting gear, an introduction to his friends and a trial run at his sales assistant job at the rug shop where he worked.

This sparked a discussion on local radio with people phoning in to say who’s life they’d like to buy.

On my original blog I wrote:

“It seemed like a fun question so I considered it myself. My initial choice was dismissed when I realised I wouldn’t want to be so busy and I didn’t like where this person lives.

My second choice would be risky because all I know of her life is what I see on the outside. I have no idea what goes on behind closed doors.

Then it hit me in a forehead smacking moment of clarity, I wouldn’t want to exchange my life for anyone else’s. No ones! And, having spent so much of the past in and out of depression that realisation feels pretty amazing.”

The only thing that has changed since I wrote those words are that today I wouldn’t even waste the time to consider other people’s lives. I love mine too much and it just keeps getting better and better.

But what about you? Do you agree? Or do you fancy a bit of someone else’s life? If so, whose life would you buy?

Leave a comment and let me know. I love hearing from you. 🙂
